Quick Rules
Objective: Checkmate the opposing king. A king may never move into check, and a checked player must escape if possible.
Movement: Pieces move by standard chess rules: pawns advance, knights jump, bishops use diagonals, rooks use ranks/files, queens combine both, and kings move one square.
Castling: If neither the king nor rook has moved, the spaces are clear, and the king does not pass through check, castle kingside or queenside.
Special pawns: Pawns can move two squares from home, capture en passant immediately after an opposing double-step, and promote on the final rank.
Draws: Stalemate, repeated positions, insufficient material, or fifty moves without a pawn move or capture end the game in a draw.
