Detailed rules and gameplay guidance for Reversi.
Finish with more discs of your colour on the board than your opponent. The board is scored when neither player has a legal move.
Reversi is played on an 8x8 board with four discs placed in the centre in alternating colours. Black normally moves first, followed by White.
A move places one disc on an empty square so that in at least one straight line it brackets one or more opposing discs between the new disc and another disc of your colour.
After a legal placement, every opposing disc bracketed in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line flips to your colour. All completed lines from that placement are flipped.
If you have no legal move, you pass and the opponent plays again. You cannot pass when a legal move exists. The game ends when the board is full or neither player can move.
Corner discs cannot be flipped, so corners are valuable. Squares beside an empty corner can give the opponent access to it and should be considered carefully.
The player with more discs at the end wins. Equal disc counts produce a draw, including when the final position leaves both players with the same score.
